In a bid to groom the next generation of data professionals, Tableau is offering a Tableau for Teaching programme (TfT) that empowers educators and students to harness the power of data analytics.
"TfT provides complimentary use of Tableau Software for coursework, access to online guest lectures, and full assistance with data sets and course assignments. It also works with professors in a variety of academic programmes ranging from business, computer science, statistics, to policy, ensuring they can easily adapt Tableau in the classroom," said JY Pook, Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific at Tableau.
Schools under this programme include the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Indian School of Business (India), University of Tokyo (Japan), The University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University (China), Seoul National University (South Korea) and University of Sydney (Australia).
To further encourage students to explore the use of Tableau outside the classroom, Tableau provides students attending an accredited school a one-year free licence to Tableau Desktop.
Commenting on the move, Pook said: "It is important that students have access to the right data tools and learn the right skills in school as they will be the ones who are analysing key data and making decisions that matter in the future. Beyond research projects at school, we hope that the data analytics skills they gain from using Tableau Desktop will help them in their future internships and jobs."
With the rise of Internet of Things and big data, analytics is quickly becoming one of the highly sought-after skills. As such, Tableau is empowering individuals - regardless of age and profession - with the analytics skillset by providing free access to Tableau Public. This allows users to "create and share interactive charts and graphs, stunning maps, live dashboards and fun applications," said Pook.
Besides that, Tableau offers an online Tableau Support Community, which allows users from all over the world to help each other with analytics issues. "From general forums, industry specific user groups, to a library of various helpful resources such as common calculations or visual best practices, the community is a great platform for users to learn from each other and get their questions answered," said Pook.
He added: "We also provide free training videos, webinars, in-person classroom training and product demos to make information easily accessible to anyone, through any medium that would be most convenient for them."
"Furthermore, our annual Tableau Conference on Tour hosts a series of training opportunities and expert talks from world-renowned thought leaders and customers. The conference is also an opportunity to gather data enthusiasts, from across regions, to enable them to discover how best they can leverage their investment in data analytics and network with other like-minded individuals," he concluded.
