Qoo10 — Singapore-based e-commerce platform — and Nanyang Polytechnic's (NYP) Singapore Institute of Retail Studies (SIRS) are now jointly offering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the republic a digital training programme.
Known as Qoo10-SIRs, the programme aims to help current merchants in Qoo10's marketplace and local SMEs who wish to jumpstart their businesses online improve their e-commerce literacy and skills to grow, promote and strategise their businesses online. Participants will thus be trained on various digital capabilities, such as data analytics and emerging technologies, as well as taught the operational and marketing aspects of e-commerce.
"NYP-SIRS' professional trainers will help our SMEs understand and embrace digital opportunities. We will give them the skills and tools to get updated with the latest industry trends and remain competitive, and relevant for the future retail landscape," explained Megan Ong, director, Singapore Institute of Retail Studies, Nanyang Polytechnic.
Sam Too, Qoo10 Singapore General Manager, added: "Getting onto a digital marketplace can be a daunting experience for SMEs, especially for first-timers. Our partnership with Nanyang Polytechnic will enable both newcomers and existing merchants to maximise their operational and marketing capabilities, and they can do it on our established platform with more than 2.5 million registered users."
Aside from the training programme, Qoo10 will also offer students from NYP's School of Business Management, Engineering, Digital Interactive Media, and IT internship opportunities.
NYP students will come together during the internship to develop digital solutions that will help shape the retail industry. They will also be given insights on how their skills can be applied to the retail workforce in future, said NYP's Principal and CEO, Jeanne Liew.
The NYP SIRS-Qoo10 partnership supports the SME Go Digital programme, which aims to help local SMEs build capabilities to thrive in the digital economy. Besides training, the programme also offers pre-approved digital solutions that will help raise SMEs' digital readiness. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) announced that 50 of such solutions are available from May 2017.
