CH2M leverages BIM to efficiently manage Changi Water Reclamation Plant expansion project

Bentley's solutions enabled CH2M to achieve a connected data environment, streamline workflows among project teams and reduce project costs.

Engineering consultant firm CH2M has leveraged Bentley's building information modeling (BIM) solutions to efficiently design and manage the Changi Water Reclamation Plant (CWRP) expansion project.

The project aims to enable the CWRP -- which is owned by Singapore's Public Utilities Board (PUB) -- to treat 1.12 billion litres of used water per day, a 200 million litres per day increase from the previous capability, so as to improve the republic's water security.

Bentley's solutions allowed CH2M to achieve a connected data environment, streamline workflows among project teams and reduce project costs.

For instance, the AECOsim Building Designer helped improve collaboration among CH2M's multi-discipline team by enabling them to seamlessly integrate project data and models regardless of file format.

Besides that, the Navigator allowed CH2M to review 3D models, identify and resolve conflicts, as well as ensure construction meets model specification. This not only ensured quality, but also reduced rework.

CH2M also used ConstructSim for work packaging processes and modeling. This facilitated their understanding of the construction sequence and enabled them to meet construction milestones.

In addition, CH2M reduced the time taken to estimate construction costs by using Bentley's BIM model for material takeoffs.

All in all, embracing a collaborative BIM strategy enabled CH2M to optimise information mobility, accelerate design sharing, increase productivity, ensure data integrity, and enhance overall project performance and delivery.
